England Squad For World Cup 2010

The England squad for South Africa and the 2010 World Cup Finals has been announced in the last 10 minutes, and since I’m an English blogger, they are the team I am following most intently. Here’s the England World Cup Squad 2010:

The Goalkeepers – Joe Hart, David James and Robert Green

The Defenders – Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson and Stephen Warnock

The Midfielders – Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner and Shaun Wright-Phillips

The Strikers – Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey and Wayne Rooney

So unfortunately it’s goodbye and good luck to seven of the England warm-ups squad, some of whom never even got to show their talents on the pitch during either of the two recent friendlies. They are: Leighton Baines, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker, Adam Johnson, Theo Walcott and Darren Bent.

The shock omission is of course Theo Walcott, but he’s a youngster and will have his day almost certainly!

During the tournament I’ll be following the England matches, and also any other games of note throughout the Group stages. Don’t forget now, the opening ceremony is on Friday 11th June.

England’s first group match: England vs USA on Saturday 12th June (Kick off 8:30pm S. Africa local time).

For other group stage matches, and match plan for follow up stages, check out the FIFA World Cup site.
